The boys trained hard across the latter part of the 2011 season and across Christmas - New Year.
James at 30/12/97 is the youngest player in the tournament - and the youngest ever selected for NSW U/16's. This however is not an excuse or a reason. All boys were selected on merit.
Jersies were delivered to the boys today in humble plastic bags minus any ceremony and suddenly the tournament seems a lot closer.
A cap presentation ceremony occurred on Saturday 31/12/11 after training. Parents presented the caps to the boys. Liam joined in.
James has a big learning tournament ahead of him as a junior player in the squad. It may see him occupy the bench for extended periods because as a pitcher he may or may not be required.
When granted any opportunity, his batting, while sound, needs to fire to force himself into the starting lineup. It has been strong at many times this season.
His work at centrefield is always solid so he has positioned himself as best he can. The likelihood of him playing his preferred first base is remote, granted his comparatively smaller height and the multiplicity and talent of others who play it as well.
However, the prized blue NSW jersey is worth any learning - and any experience is gold.
Chris McCallum has done some good background work on replacing James' broken Easton XL Omen bat which is being ushered out from the USA in the coming days. The postman has never been more popular. A cracker of a bat in many more ways than one.
